My Book Shelf

Reading is one of the most important aspects of my life.  Since a young age, I have enjoyed the pleasures of reading.  There is no other activity which can remove you temporarily from this world and transplant you into the depths of imaginary greatness.  More importantly however is the wisdom than is available to anyone who chooses to read.  I created this page to share with you the works I have enjoyed reading and some brief thoughts on each.

The Goldfinch – Donna Tartt

The GoldfinchThe Goldfinch was a book I read this summer with a little hesitation.  First and foremost, it was 785+ pages of pure, creative literature.  I wasn’t too certain I was up for it.  Secondly, the book’s primary premise is based around a work of art known as The Goldfinch.  Not that have anything against art, its that I am just not terribly interested in it.

It wouldn’t take long until I really came to love this book.  Tartt, an other of only two literary works, has an unprecedented ability to make the characters come to life.  You quickly identify with those involved in the storyline.  She moves at an acceptable pace throughout the book to keep you engaged, but not bored.  The pose used is enough to challenge you, but not so much you are irritated with words you aren’t familiar with.  The book contains references to drugs, sex, adventure, and emotional devastation.  At almost any part of the book, you can relate the situation to your life.

The author does such a great job of pulling the reader into the life of the main character of the book, that you forget all about the length of the book.  In fact, when you reach the end, you are longing for more!  I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a down-to-earth book.

The $100 Startup

The $100 StartupThis book is one of those which simply changes your life.  I am certain you do not even have to have that serious of an interest in entrepreneurship, because you certainly will by the end of this read.  Without question, my favorite part of this book was just how it rapidly changes your mind and thinking of the world.  One of the more powerful aspects of it has to do with the author’s inclusion of real life examples.  This quickly facilitates the ability for the reader to identify with the example case studies which are provided.  It also does a remarkable job at making you realize just how possible any of these ideas are.

If you are looking for a book, especially about life and success, then this book is a must read.  The author, from the very beginning of the book, will create for you an atmosphere where your perspectives will change and you will learn.  During the second part of the book, you will learn how you can duplicate the success of the stories illustrated in the book.  For me, this was an absolute must read which changed my life for the better!
